Matchmaking Advice for Senior Dating Personals
Friday, August 20th, 2010

Operating a matchmaking business is clearly one with challenges, but it also has its rewards in terms of achieving success when an ultimate match is made.  Last week I attended a  Wellington wedding where a successfully match making couple embarked on their life together and I have to say this sort of event – by no means rare, either – brings home what the job is all about.

But one of the issues that arose from last week’s celebration was something that was asked of me by a couple of guests, which concerns senior dating people dating.  What are the challenges? What are the obstacles and chances of success?  The happy couple from last week are in their late 50s/early 60s and so clearly no ‘spring chickens’.

But both shared a couple of  characteristics that I have identified previously in successful matches:  first, they were positive about their prospects, even though both had been involved in unsuccessful relationships previously.  Second, they both had positive ‘self images’.  That does not mean that they are ‘full of themselves’ or any such thing, but in my match making work I frequently encounter clients who either put themselves down or, just as bad, put others down.

The result of this mindset is destructive of both the client and any chance of developing a successful relationship.  I would like to think that I have helped many senior dating people move away from that mindset through a range of different activities, including developing new interests, becoming involved in things they always wanted to do but never had the time, developing a positive attitude, changing their lifestyle and others.

There is no question that ‘matching’, like beauty, is in the eye and mind of the beholder.  So if you’re struggling away trying to find that personals dating websites then please do not give up.  Remain positive, make some changes if you think they would help you and surround yourself with positive people, not naysayers.
